Align Southern Indiana
Align Southern Indiana (“ASI”) is a nonprofit, five county collaboration affliated with Alignment USA. ASI was developed to convene community and nonprofit leaders from across Southern Indiana. ASI is working to align community resources and implement solutions to better prepare the community for the future.
Their mission is, “To actively facilitate a shared regional process that will align resources, address needs and produce sustainable solutions resulting in our region achieving its potential as a best place to live, work and play.”
The five counties that make up this collabortion include Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington Counties.
This Plan
Align Southern Indiana (“ASI”) long term vision for trails is for the region to be connected by paved paths, bike lanes, and other infrastructure that will provide greater safety, health, connectivity, and active transportation routes between communities and destinations. Paved, gravel and natural surface trails, bikeways, and walkways will link people to the nature, history, and communities of Southern Indiana.
To begin working towards this vision, ASI has hired HWC Engineering to complete a comprehensive regional trail master plan. The counties that make up the planning area include the Align Southern Indiana counties, which include Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington Counties, and Jefferson County, Indiana. The plan will also look at connections to Jefferson County, Kentucky.
This plan will be a tool and resource for the Our Southern Indiana Regional Development Authority and other agencies and organizations to utilize and refer to as they develop strategies to build and develop a regional trail system.
Phase 1: Inventory & Data Collection
Phase 2: Research & Analysis
Phase 3: Results & Recommendations
Planning Process
This plan will be developed through an extensive process of inventory, data collection, research, gathering of public input and analysis. The information collected throughout this process will be summarized within the content of the plan and will inform and shape the recommendations.
There are three main phases of the planning process. These include:
Phase 1: Inventory & Data collection - This phase focuses on collecting information of existing infrastructure, demographics, health, and other pertinent information that may affect future regional trails. In this phase, extensive public input will be gathered through a variety of methods including a public survey, six public open houses at various counties in the region, and stakeholder meetings.
Phase 2: Research & Analysis - This phase focuses on researching current literature and publications related to trails and analysis of all the data collected and public input gathered. Phase 2 takes the information from Phase 1 and determines how it informs and shapes the plan.
Phase 3: Results & Recommendations - This phase combines the results of the previous phases into a series of specific recommendations for the plan.
